October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, also known as Pinktober—a time to shine a light on a cause that’s deeply personal to me.
I’m Tanesha, the founder of I'ma Lady Accessories, and this month is more than just wearing pink—it's about sharing real stories and raising awareness in honor of the people we love. My mom, Tammy, is a 4-year breast cancer survivor, and my mother-in-law, Toni, is a 5-year survivor. Their strength and courage have inspired everything I do, and it's why breast cancer awareness is at the heart of our brand.
Why Breast Cancer Awareness Matters?
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide. In the U.S. alone, nearly 300,000 women are expected to be diagnosed this year. For Black women, breast cancer often shows up at younger ages and in more aggressive forms, which makes early detection and education even more critical in our communities.
How You Can Protect Yourself?
While you can’t prevent breast cancer entirely, there are ways to lower your risk and catch it early:
Schedule Regular Screenings: Talk to your doctor about when to begin mammograms.
Do Monthly Self-Checks: Get familiar with how your breasts normally look and feel. Check for lumps, changes in shape, or unusual pain.
Live a Healthy Lifestyle: Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and limiting alcohol can reduce your risk.
Know Your Family History: Share it with your healthcare provider and ask about additional screening options if needed.
The Stories You Don’t Often Hear
This month, we're honoring fighters and survivors by telling their stories—the parts people don’t always see. Breast cancer isn’t just about treatment; it’s about navigating life afterward. Many survivors face ongoing side effects, emotional struggles, and financial challenges long after their last treatment.
We’ll be highlighting voices from our community throughout the month—real women, real journeys, and real strength. These stories deserve to be heard.
Wear a Tribute. Spread Awareness.
At I'ma Lady Accessories, we’ve created a line of stylish breast cancer awareness items that let you show your support in a beautiful way. When you wear one, you're not just making a fashion statement—you're spreading awareness and honoring every woman who's faced this battle.
