My name is Latonia Triplett, and I am a Breast Cancer Survivor of 5 ½ years.
On September 3, 2019, was a life altering day. After finding a lump during a self-breast check in the shower, I was diagnosed with Stage 2B HER2+ Grade 3 breast cancer - an aggressive form that moved faster than I could process.
Within days, I began treatment: six rounds of chemotherapy before even considering surgery. As I learned more about my diagnosis, I faced one of the toughest decisions of my life, lumpectomy or mastectomy. After heartfelt discussions with my spouse, my mother, my daughter, and close family, I chose to undergo a double mastectomy with reconstruction.
On February 3, 2020, I was officially cancer-free after surgery, but my journey didn’t end there. I continued with 18 months of targeted therapy and a year of oral medication, navigating a recovery filled with both physical and emotional challenges.
There were moments that tested my faith and strength in ways I never imagined. I experienced life-threatening complications that changed how I saw healing. Yet, through it all, my faith in God, my supportive family, and an amazing medical team held me up when I couldn’t stand on my own.
My mother became one of my biggest sources of strength, especially when she was diagnosed with breast cancer just three months after me. Together, we fought. Together, we prayed. And together, we believed that God would make a way.
On January 18, 2021, I rang the bell, symbolizing victory, strength, and new beginnings.
Breast cancer changed me forever. It challenged me mentally, physically, financially, and spiritually, but it also taught me the value of faith over fear, self-advocacy, and self-love.
To every woman reading this:
✨ Advocate for yourself. Speak up when something doesn’t feel right.
✨ Listen to your body. Early detection saves lives.
✨ Surround yourself with love and positivity. A strong support system makes a world of difference.
Rebuilding confidence after breast cancer takes time, patience, and grace, but it’s possible. I now live my life with purpose, gratitude, and no regrets, knowing that faith truly conquers fear.
